Joanna Rider's uncle, William Rider who died May 4, 1887, left to St Aloysius Church one hundred and sixty shares of stock so the interest and dividends would be drawn annually by the trustees and their successors of the church and given to the "pastor of the congregation" for the purpose of saying masses for William's wife (Elizabeth Weirick), himself, all the deceased of his family and the suffering souls in Purgatory. The interest and dividends could not be used for any other purpose and if it should be taken for any other purpose then the principal sum would be reverted to his estate.

The church had a meeting and on June 23, 1887 and this was their response:

Dear Sir, At a special meeting of the board of trustee of St Aloysius congregation, Thursday June 23, it was resolved:That the within bequest of Wm. Rider, deceased, late of Littleston Borough, be not accepted.

This was filed June 25, 1887 in the Register's office.

The stock was reverted to his estate and became the absolute property of Joanna Rider. The value amounting to $4960. Joanna wanted her uncle's generosity and will to be carried out as much as possible. With this purpose in mind and at the same time to use the money for religious purposes she gifted to the church a generous $10,000 which aided in the completion the the new church of Saint Aloysius.
