"Mrs. Hannah M. K. Crofoot
"Hannah M. Kent was born in Leyden, Lewis County, New York, on the first day of September 1812. On the 13th day of November 1840 she was married to Russel D. Crofoot, who survives her. Her life up to 1870 was spent in her native county and in that year she with her family came to Sandwich, Illinois, where they have resided up to the date of her death. She died on Friday the 8th of January 1897 at the family homestead in this city. She was the mother of four children, three sons and one daughter, two of whom, Adelbert B. Crofoot, formerly a merchant in this city, now of Peoria, Ill., and Dwight K. Crofoot of this city survive.
"Mrs. Crofoot was a woman of marked characteristics and wherever she resided wielded a strong influence. She thought for herself and held to her conclusions firmly and kindly. Her friendship was worth the having and those who were so fortunate as to be her chosen companions found in her an earnest sympathizer in the joys and sorrows of life. In no family was there ever found a truer wife and fonder mother. During the years of weary suffering which she has endured, she bore herself with exemplary patience and self control, trusting ever that He who had promised to watch over His own would not forget her whose heart was fixed on Him. To one who was even near the brink of the unknown world than she, she spoke encouragingly a few days before they departed and said, "I have never let go my confidence in His love." The funeral was at the family residence on Sunday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. James M. Lewis and beautiful Oak Ridge holds what is mortal of wife, mother, grand mother, and friend."
