Allen E. Mantooth, age 91, of Newport passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011.

He was a member of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon for 59 years, having served as chairman for several years as well as trustee of the church. He also served as former custodian, Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School teacher. He was active in church until his health declined.

He was also Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 297 for 20 years. He was also a charter member of the Edwina Ruritan Club, where he served as treasurer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Artell J. Mantooth, parents, John R. and Ellen (Hall) Mantooth; sister, Nora Wood; brothers, Barnett (infant), Homer and Clay Mantooth and niece Frankie Lynn James.

He is survived by his daughter, Arzella (Jerry) Shelton; grandchildren, Shelly (Eric) Ford and Shannon (Rodney) Myers; great-grandchildren, Austin, Logan and Caden Ford, Landon, Gracie and Katie Myers; nieces, Dorothy Parks, Betty Cothran and Barbara Cureton; nephews, Gordon Wood and Dennis James. Close friends, H.P, Marie and Steve Crum, friends and caregivers at Baptist Convalescent Center, Dr. James Williams and staff of Smoky Mountain Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, July 2, 2011 in the Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jackie Swanger and Rev. James Suggs officiating. Burial will follow in the Mantooth Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 2:00 pm Saturday, July 2, 2011 prior to the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, donatios may be made to the Shady Grove Youth Fund, 1030 Sweetwater Rd., Newport, Tenn.
