Mr. Edison Eugene Green was born to Albert Joshua and Nancy Savannah Taylor Green on Sept. 2, 1925, in Littleville, Ala. He departed this life Friday, Sept. 5, 2008. Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. today, Sept. 7, 2008, at Greenview Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel, with burial in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Bob Plunkett, Bill Tankersly and Dr. Kenny Barfield. Gene was a 1943 graduate of Deshler High School and a 1949 graduate of the University of North Alabama, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy Air Corps as a radioman from 1943 to 1945. He later attended the University of North Alabama, where he was the first publishing editor of the Diorama and the business editor of the Flor-Ala. Gene married Anne Earwood on Aug. 21, 1948, and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary one week before his death. Gene was a State Farm Insurance agent for 33 years, served as an elder at Highland Park and Tuscumbia Churches of Christ, a member of the board of directors of First National Bank (later Colonial Bank) from 1977 to 2000, chairman of the board of the University of North Alabama from 1992-94, and Heritage Christian University, and also served on the President's Council of Heritage University and Mars Hill Bible School. Gene was predeceased by his parents, Albert Joshua and Savannah Taylor Green; son, Gary Stephen Green; three brothers, Alec, Henry and Bill Green; three sisters, Pearl Green Morrow, Bessie Green Sterling and Callie Green. He is survived by his wife, Anne Earwood Green; daughter, Gene Anne Gifford and her husband, David, of Muscle Shoals; grandson, Trevor Evans-Young; granddaughter, Becky Evans-Young, of Nashville, Tenn.; stepgranddaughter, Sasha Gifford and her husband, Mike Posey, of Montgomery; and a sister, Dorothy Green Hite, of Florence. Pallbearers will be Eric Behel, Brian Earwood, John Givens, Greg Green, John Morrow and Mike Posey. Honorary pallbearers will include Gary Brewer, Charlie Brown, Bill Britton, Donald Fuller, Sam Kimbrough, Jerry McGee, Larry Osbourne, Jack Wilhelm and the elders of Tuscumbia Church of Christ. The family would like to extend special thanks to Gene's caregivers: Amy, Bridgette, Judy, Kay and Linda, Wiregrass Hospice and Dr. Cunningham. Arrangements by Greenview Funeral Home.
