Amy worked in the tailor shop at Sears Roebuck and Co. downtown and was transferred to the Washington Square store when the new shopping center was opened where she retired several years later. She was a member of Souls Harbor Baptist Church, where her son Ronnie serves as pastor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Bonds, two daughters, Daphene Bonds and Valerie Pounders, and grandson, Stanley Pounders.
Amy was a loving mother and "Maw Maw" Bonds to everyone who knew her.
Amy is survived by son, Bob L. and wife, Ruth Bonds of Evansville; son, Dr. Reverend Ronnie and wife, Hazel Bonds, of Evansville; grandchildren, Karla Pounders, who lived with her, Dr. Gregory Pounders, Robert Pounders of Robards, Ky., Heather Schmidt, Nathan Bonds and John Paul Bonds; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Hilda Rooks of Lawndale, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews from Mississippi, Alabama, California, and Maryland.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2003, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Reverend Maurice Melton. Entombment will be at Alexander Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Friends may call 3 to 8 p.m. today, August 28, 2003, at Alexander East Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to VistaCare hospice. Condolences may be made online at http://www.mem.com
