William Somers Carter married Narrigan (Nancy) A. Dempster on Oct. 14, 1841 in Leesville, Carroll Co., OH. All of their eight children were born in Ohio: Mary Elizabeth Carter who married Henry Simpson; A. G. Carter b. ca. 1846; Amanda E. who married Nelson Simpson; Jennie born ca. 1852; William Wilberforce who married Effie Myrtle Linnie Nash; Ann C.; Caroline or Carrie; Lulu May. In 1850 he was in Carroll Co., OH but had moved to Christian Co. IL by 1860. Nancy Dempster Carter died in Illinois in 1863. He was a "Free Methodist Minister" and served as a Private in Co. B 20 IL Infantry during the Civil War. At some point he went to Iowa because he married Mrs. Malvina Harris Reese there in 1866. Their only child was a daughter Elfreda Carter born in 1867 in Adams Co., IL. He moved his family to Hancock Co., IL by 1870 and was in Rice Co., KS in 1875. W. S. Carter, Malvina & Elfreda came to Starrville, Smith Co.,Texas about 1884.
