On Nov 11(sic), 1891, a disastrous fire broke out in a haystack near the site of the first Fredeck home. Joseph (called Little Joe), was fatally burned. Rosalie faught valiantly to save her son. Her hands were severly burned and Dr. Jim Alexander feared that amputation was the only answer. This stout hearted pioneer woman said an emphatic No. She would not permit it. Her hands healed and she used them the remainder of her life."
