Darlene Fern (Sagehorn) Hagemann was born August 7, 1922 in Amherst. She died and the Lord took her home peacefully May 24, 2011.
The first of three daughters born to Esther Marie Brase and Walter Leonard Sagehorn, Darlene was later joined by Lillian Irene and Shirley Ann. Darlene grew up in Holyoke and graduated from Phillips County High School in 1940.
She was active throughout high school, playing the clarinet in both the Holyoke and Phillips County High School bands. A charter member of the Phillips County High School Pep Club of 1938, Darlene was also a "Dragonette" cheerleader.
She married Lowell Elmer "Shorty" Hagemann on May 15, 1941. Darlene and Shorty spent most of their early years in Holyoke raising two sons, Kenneth Lowell and Robert Alan.
Darlene began working for J.C. Penney/Smythe's Department Store in Holyoke in the mid 1950s. She was employed there until Shorty received an opportunity to work for the Colorado Department of Weights and Measures in Denver.
Shorty and Darlene relocated to Aurora in 1968. They made their home in the greater Denver area until Shorty's death in October 1988. Darlene was fortunate to be able to travel throughout her years, visiting her sons and their families throughout the U.S. She also traveled to Hawaii and to Europe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Stanley Travis; and nephew Alan Lindgren.
Darlene is survived by her sister Lillian Lindgren and husband Dewey; sons Kenneth Hagemann and wife Jeanette (Stenson) and Robert Hagemann and wife Marietta "Mary" (Simpson); grandsons Kenneth Hagemann Jr. and wife Roberta (Ferrell), Todd Hagemann and wife Julie (Gartner), Jason Bevers and wife Jeanette (Hiser) and Beau Simpson; granddaughters Charleen (Hagemann)Jones and husband Kyle and Stephanie (Hagemann) Ruth and husband Bryan; great grandchildren, Jason Hagemann and wife Jessica (Dudzik), Jessica Hagemann, Myranda Hagemann, Brent Hagemann, Eliana Ruth and Kaiya Ruth; great great grandson Dylan Hagemann; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and countless good and faithful friends.
