Death of Dwight S. Atkins

It is with feelings of sincere regret and sorrow, that we write of the death of our long time friend and neighbor, Dwight S. Atkins. His serious illness has been known for several weeks and he has been gradually failing in strength until Tuesday night when he passed peacefully and quietly from life to death.

Mr. Atkins was born in Otisco, Onondaga County, July 4, 1835. He came to Nunda in the fall of 1865, and engaged in the market business, forming a partnership with Mr. W. Framingham in 1870, which continued up to the time of his death.

He leaves a wife and two daughters here and three brothers: William who resides in Syracuse; Benjamin of Otisco and LaVante of Minneapolis.

Mr. Atkins was a well-known man throughout all this section and in Allegany County, as he traveled the country purchasing stock for his market and practicing as a veterinary besides dealing in horses. He was a great lover and admirer of horses, and for many years has been called on to act as on of the judges at various fairs. He was a warm hearted genial man, always ready to help a friend, and a kind husband and father, who was greatly attached to his family and they to him.

He was a good citizen and one who will be missed by his neighbors and townsmen. He has resided in the house where he died, 28 years last November.

The funeral will be held at the house on Saturday at 3 PM, Rev. J. M. Carmichael officiating.
