American Army Air Service pilot, World War Two. Parents were Arthur Wells and Elizabeth Ellen (Read) Christie.

Christie attended Columbia Grammar School; East Orange High School, New Jersey; New York Preparatory School; College of William and Mary, 1909-1911; New York University Law School, 1911-1912.

He was first married to Mary Louise Russell of Chicago, in June 1917. He married again to Germaine Adelaide de Beaume on 24 January 1920; and a third marriage was to Gesina Hendrica Schrandi of Holland, 17 March 1932. He married yet once again to Eva Caroline (maiden name unknown) who survived him in death in Málaga.

Christie enlisted in the Army in 1913. As a 2nd Lieutenant, Regular Army, he started training at the Signal Corps Aviation School, San Diego, California, 2 December 1914. He passed his Junior Military Aviator test in June 1915 and was assigned as an original member of the 1st Aero Squadron. This pioneer US military unit served at Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Brownsville, Texas; San Antonio, Texas; and in the Punitive Expedition to Mexico under Colonel Pershing, the first operational use of air power by America.

In August 1916,Christie was ordered to Chicago, Illinois to assist in the organization of an aviation school for reserve officers. He was Commanding Officer (CO) of the Signal Corps Aviation School, Memphis, Tennessee in 1917; and also first CO of Wilbur Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio in 1917.

Sent to France in WWI, he was appointed CO, 2nd Aviation Instruction Center, Tours, France, then assumed command of the 99th Aero Squadron on 30 March 1918. On 27 July 1918 made he was appointed CO of the 5th Army Corps Observation Group. He then became Chief of Air Service, 5th Army Corps, American Expeditionary Force (AEF), Toul Sector for Vosges, St. Mihiel, and Meuse-Argonne.

After WWI he was appointed a member of the Joint Army and Navy Board on Aeronautics in June 1919; then Liaison Officer with the Naval Air Service in August 1920 and CO of Mitchell Field. He was assigned as assistant Air Attaché, U.S. Embassy, Tokyo, Japan, in May 1921.

Christie resigned from the Air Service on 15 December 1922 and worked for Elwell, Bliss & Yarnaell, 1923-1925; Columbia Industrial Corp., 1925-1926; Bankers Trust Company, NY, 1926-1938; United Aircraft Corp., 1939-1943; Pratt & Whitney Aircraft division, United Aircraft Corp. 1943-1958. Consultant, Thompson Products, Inc., Washington, DC 1958-1959; and lastly as Manager, Washington, DC office The Martin Company.

Christie died of stomach cancer in Málaga, Spain, age 74, and was buried in the non-Catholic section of the cemetery sited below. He is known to have had at least one son, Major E.M. Christie, who survived him and was resident in Harwich, Massachusetts at the time of his father’s death. Christie's remains may have later been moved to Barnstable, Massachusetts for reburial.
