CIVIL WAR VETERAN

William Cline was born in Dewitt, Illinoise on 29 November 1893. William's parents are Levi Cline and Ruth L Scott. His known siblings are Tamsey Jane, Nancy Ann, Mary Maise, John A, George Polk, Thomas Abraham, Moses Brown, Levi Alexander, James Henry and Sarah Elizabeth "Sadie", Sally Cline.

On 25 Aug 1861, he enlisted at Baueroft, Missouri and mustered into Co. H, 23rd Missouri Infantry. He was discharged on 31 Jan 1864 and reenlisted, joining Co. A of his regiment. He was discharged on 18 Jul 1865.

He married Minerva Jane Mayo, December 24, 1865, at Daviess, Missouri. Their known children are Robert Henry, John W, Rachel Ann, George Dwight, Levi, Isaac, Mary Ellen, Sarah Elizabeth and Emma Jane Cline. His wife died 04 Feb 1921

He came to Washington in 1884 and applied for a veteran's pension in 1890.

In 1900, he and his family were living in Port Orchard where he farmed.

At the age of 81, while still living in Port Orchard, he was admitted to the veterans home at Retsil on 26 Oct 1921.

He died in Port Orchard on 09 Aug 1926, at Retsil, Washington, at the age of eighty six.
