John Tjaden dies at age of 74

John (Jack) Tjaden, 74, died at Eureka Hospital at 12:03 p.m. Friday. He had been a patient since Feb. 1.

Funeral services were Monday at Mason Funeral Home, Metamora, the Rev. Kenneth Roedder officiated. Burial was in Park View Cemetery, Peoria.

He was born Aug. 13, 1895, in Lowpoint, a son of Charles and Mary Smith (Tjade and Heimke Schmidt) Tjaden. He married Hazel Stivers Aug. 26, 1917.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Dale, Dewitt, Iowa; Byron, Pekin; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ann Reddy, Peoria; Mrs. Minnie Moreland, Los Angeles, Calif.; a brother, Clarence, Peoria.

Nine brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

He was a foreman at Altorfer Bros. for 39 years. He retired 11 years ago and had lived in Cazenovia for 24 years.
