She was born in Springfield on January 7, 1929, to Truman and Viola (Ford) Burge, Sr. She married Harry R. Benedict, Sr. in April 14, 1950 in Petersburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
Mary worked as an inspector at John W. Hobbs, retiring after 30 years of service. She was a member of Eagles 437 Ladies Auxiliary, was an avid Bingo player, and was of the Presbyterian faith.
She is survived by 2 sons, Harry "Bob" (Pam "Bunny" Davidson) Benedict and Bill (Mary Kay Monroney) Benedict, both of Springfield; 4 grandchildren, Heather (Brad) Palmer, Brian (Rachel) Benedict, Bill Benedict, Jr., and Ashley Benedict; 5 great-grandchildren, Zachary Hatton, Erika Benedict, Connor Hubbell, Bill Benedict, III, and Audrey Benedict; 1 brother, William (Judy) Burge of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Monday, June 27, 2011, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, with the Reverend Kathy Swaar officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Buckhart.
