Bremerton Sun:
Edmond A. Showalter, 89, formerly of Port Orchard Rte.5, Box 413, died in Y-Not Nursing Home at Long Lake early yesterday morning. He had been a nursing home resident since July 18, 1960. Mr. Showalter was born in Moundridge, Kan., June 16, 1877, to Amos and Elisabeth Showalter. Most of his childhood was spent on farms in Kansas and Missouri. He came to Washington in 1902, and worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad in Pasco and Ellensburg, and returned to Kansas in 1907. Mr. Showalter and Kate Cowles Adams were married in 1908 in Kansas. They came to Washington in 1909, to Othello. At that time Mr. Showalter was working for the Milwaukee Railroad. He retired in 1942. He moved to Renton in 1943 and then briefly lived in Garden City, Kan., Bremerton, and since 1946, Port Orchard. Mr. Showalter was a member of the Boilermakers Union. Surviving are two sons, Ernest V. of Seattle and Lauriston A. of Port Orchard; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mary E. Huffman of Larned, Kan., and Mrs. Bertha Childers of Burdet, Kan.; a brother, Dave of Larned, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home with burial in Sunset Lane Cemetery.
