Son of Alliston J. and Edith Frances (Thomas) Durling who were married in Marshfield around 1900 and lived in Pembroke at that time with his parents. Alliston was born in Nova Scotia, the son of Herbert and Annie (McGill) Durling. Edith was the dau of George Herbert and Ellen Maria (Peterson) Thomas of Marshfield. Charles married Ada Sampson, also buried Cedar Grove, but they had no children. Charles served as a Seaman in the US Navy, WWI. He is buried in the Thomas/Stetson plot at Cedar Grove.
One brother, George Thomas Durling, born in Marshfield on 18 March 1907, also married but had no children according to the family history. Charles' parents divorced sometime between 1910-20, and his mother Edith married second Charles "Bert" H. Rich and moved to Duxbury; no children of her second marriage.
Charles Rich was a machinists mate living on the USS Bonita in 1910, enlisted in the US Navy Military and Naval Forces. He was born in "English" Canada, as were his parents per census records, although an early census record says his mother was born in Wales.
