Thurman, 84, of Sherwood died at his daughter's home, he was born at Lamont, a son of Harp Ervin and Mary Ella Clement Blackerby.

He was raised at Grapevine and graduated from Grapevine High School. He worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal from 1942-1946. He worked for Martin Brothers Gas Co., for more than 20 years, they were bought out by Sun Gas and he retired from them in 1978.

He was a member of Altheimer United Methodist Church and the Altheimer Lion's Club where he was on the board of directors.

Services were held at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors with Rev. Robert A. Boyd Clanton officiating.

He was married to Bennie Jean Peirce Blackerby on September 17, 1938. They had two daughters, Bettye Blackerby Nelson and Jean Blackerby Nichols.
