According to the Franklin County Missouri Cemetery Society, he is buried next to parents Henry and Martha (Kenninston) Kelso.

He was listed with his parents on the 1910 census in Lyon Township, Franklin Co., MO.

According to the The Missouri State Archives Soldiers Database at:
http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/soldiers/details.asp?id=A69052&conflict=World%20War%20I&txtName=kelso,%20stephen&selConflict=All&txtUnit=&rbBranch=Army/Marine

he was born in Beaufort, Franklin Co., MO. He was inducted into the army at Union, Franklin Co., MO on 29 Apr 1919 and served overseas from 30 Jun 1918 to 1 Jan 1919, where he was severely wounded.

He served as a private first in 37th Company, 164th Depot Brigade until 15 May 1918, and then in Company E, 356th Infantry, 89th Division.

In 1920, he was a patient at the Army hospital at Fort Sheridan, Deerfield, Lake Co., Illinois:

1920 census, Lake Co., IL, Deerfield, U.S. Army General Hospital #28, p. 132:
[among many other patients]
Stephen Kelso, 28, single, born in Missouri, private in infantry

No death certificate has been found yet, but it looks like he died of complications from his war wounds. He probably died at the Army hospital in Illinois, but he may have gone to live with his parents in St. Louis.

His military tombstone inscription says he served from Missouri in the 356th Infantry, 89th Division.

Thanks to researcher Rob Gomoluh for his birth date, middle name and for finding him on the 1920 census.
