Alice MacDonald Van Alst was born 24 Nov 1905 in Brooklyn, NY, to Robert Alexander Van Alst Jr. and Alice Frances MACDONALD Van Alst. She had a younger sister, Jane. Alice grew up in Brooklyn and moved to Rockville Centre, NY, in the 1920's. She spent summers at the family bayfront home in Indian Neck, Peconic, NY. Alice married William Wood in 1940. They divorced about 1960. In 1973 Alice married Thomas Gumbs and moved to Jensen Beach, Florida. She did not have any children. Alice was an excellent cook and enjoyed arts and crafts.
