Fan El Simmons passed away Wednesday March 15, 1989, after a lengthy illness. Born in Mexia, Texas, she moved to Sayre, Oklahoma, from Memphis, Tennessee, with her family in 1937. Fan El graduated from Oklahoma University and earned a Masters Degree in Education from Central State University (now University of Central Oklahoma). After teaching elementary grades in Sayre and Oklahoma City public schools she retired in 1978.
Survivors include her husband, C.M. Simmons, Oklahoma City; son, Steve Simmons and wife Darlene of Edmond; daughter, Gail Griffin and husband, Tommy, of Oklahoma City; grandchildren are Erin, Anthony, Tanner Simmons, and Taylor Griffin; one brother, L.G. Owings lives in Haughton, Louisiana. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 17, 1989 at Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Hahn-Cook/Street and Draper Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to May Avenue United Methodist Church, Endowment Fund, or the Oklahoma City Chapter of Alzheimer's and Related Diseases Association.
