LEONARD M. WESTHOFF

WALNUT - Leonard M. Westhoff, 81, of Walnut, died at 7:50 PM. Friday, Dec. 13, 1996 in the Intensive Care Unit Labette County Medical Center at Parsons. He was in failing health the last month and entered the hospital Nov. 11.

Mr. Westhoff was born Feb. 27, 1915, at rural Walnut, Joseph and Dora Schulz Westhoff. He attended schools and grew up at rural Walnut.

He married Theda K. Doherty on May 23, 1944, at St. Aloysius Church at Greenbush.

Mr. Westhoff was a farmer and lifelong resident of Walnut.

He was a former member of St. Aloysius Church and later St. Patrick's Church at Walnut. After these churches closed, he moved his membership to St. Michael's Church at Girard.

Survivors include his wife of the home; 10 daughters, Betty Noe of Farlington, Patsy McVey of Butler, Mo., Irene Gillette of Pittsburg, Linda Boatman of Girard, Ruth Leritz of Girard, Pauline Wells of McCune, Charlene Coomes of St. Paul, Debbie Vitt of Bonner Springs, Cathy McDonald of Lamar, Mo. and Karen Whetstone of Girard; 26 grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and a sister Edith Westhoff of Girard.

He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph C. "Joe" Westhoff on Feb. 9, 1991; a daughter, Mary Catherine Westhoff in infancy; a brother Clarence Westhoff on Nov. 1, 1971; and a great-grand-daughter.

Funeral Mass will be 10 AM. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church at Girard with Msgr. Vincent Hogan and Fr. Donald R. Thissen as concelebrants. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery at Greenbush. The Altar Society Rosary will be at 6:30 PM., followed by the Parish Rosary at 7 at Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home at Girard, where friends may call after 9 AM. Monday. The family will receive friends following the Parish Rosary. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
