Azor was the son of Amos Henthorn and Elizabeth Sharp. He married Dorothy C. Hennagir about 1878. In the 1900 census, it stated that she bore 10 children but only 7 survived. After her death, Azor married May Stone in 1929.

A.J. Henthorn was a prominent early citizen of the State of Oklahoma. He was a famous award-winning stockman, whose influence (recorded in many stock breeding annals) with regard to the breeding of Percheron horses and Poland-China swine was substantial.
