Mrs. Anna F. Persson, former president of the New Jersey State Midwives Association, who died Saturday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nellie Phillips, Bayonne, after a long illness. She was the widow of Lars Persson, who died eight months ago. She was 74 and for nearly 50 years a practicing midwife. Mrs. Persson was born in Kolding, Denmark and was brought to Brooklyn in her early teens by her parents. It was there she met her husband , married June 15, 1884 in Brookly, NY and together they went to Bayonne when that city was noted chiefly for its agricultural and fishing pursuits. Mr Persson, a seaman, long was employed as an engineer on vessels along the Atlantic seaboard, many of which berthed at the old Port Johnston Coal Docks in Bayonne. These survive three sons, Jess Peter of Passaic: Louis of Jersey City, and Theodore Persson of Bayonne: four daughters, Mrs. Dorothea Hanssen, Mrs. Sophia Carlson, Mrs. Marie Persson and Mrs. Nellie Phillips: 28 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; Also, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Larson and Mrs. Nellie Vogt and a brother Fred Paulsen, all of Jersey City.
