RAYMOND READ OF MACKSBURG DIES
Death Occurred Last Friday; Was 48 Years of Age
Raymond A. Read of Macksburg, died Friday, Oct. 27, at Madison county Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 48 years of age.
Mr. Read was born in Scott township July 15, 1913, a son of Asahel and Mary Jane Jones Read. Most of his life was spent in Madison county, with the last 10 years in the Macksburg community.
He served as a member of the Macksburg school board for several years, being president of the board five years. He was a member of the Macksburg Methodist chruch, was a member of the official board of the church, and a trustee. He was affiliated with Grand River lodge of the Odd Fellows, and Hawthorne Rebekah lodge.
Mr. Read was married May 15,==== to Esther L. Smith of St. Charles who survives him. He also leaves two daughters, Mrs. Karen White of Des Moines and Hulda Read, at home; a son, Gary Read, at home; three brothers, Dwight, Nelson and Maurice Read of Winterset; and two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Young of Truro and Mrs. Jessie Young of Winterset.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Macksburg Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. Donald Frank. Burial was made in the Union Chapel cemetery.
