He traveled with his brother William to Texas to fight for the Republic of Texas. Enlistment 1837-02-16 to 1837-11-04, Recd Land Grant, Deed Records of Llano Cty, Texas Patent Ltr #542 Vol 4. He married Mary A Cunningham 1844 in Houston, Texas. They moved to Northern Louisiana (around LaSalle and Caldwell Parish) to raise their family.
