He grew up and attended school in Luverne, North Dakota. He married Helen Bueng in Ada, Minnesota and early in their marriage they resided in the Seattle, Washington area before moving to Bottineau, North Dakota in 1945. Dick began a successful business career in Bottineau owning several businesses including Davidson's Hi-Lo Grocery, the Gamble Hardware store and Davidson's Meat Processing Plant. In 1969 he retired and moved to Hood River, Oregon where he died at the age of 93.
