Son of Nathaniel Melich Lear and Nancy Spicer. Hiram was a prominent farmer in Princeton Twp., White Co., IN, owning approx. 800 acres of land at one time. He donated a small portion of that land to be used as a Lear family resting place, now known as Palestine Cemetery.
