Ray W. Smith, age 84, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2011 in Boulder City.

Ray was born October 20, 1926 in Bedford, Pennsylvania to Chester and Bessie Mock Smith. After school Ray enlisted with the U.S. Navy where he served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam as a boatsmain's mate first class. In the Navy he learned to be a radar specialist. He was proud of his service and loved his country.

Ray married Edie Stevenson on April 7, 1956. After Ray's service in the Navy, he worked as a harbour boatsman in Long Beach, California. Ray moved to Las Vegas in 1978 and worked at the Mercury Missile Site. He loved to garden and golf.

Ray is survived by his wife, Edie Smith; a son, Charles (Vickie) Smith; three grandchildren, Cory, Valerie and Chad; five great granddaughters; a sister, Joyce Miller; and his cat Sammy. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Tom; and a sister, Helen.

A memorial service will be held at 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
