Raymond J. Angert, 63, of Karns City died at 4:13 a.m. Tuesday at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, Kittanning, after a long illness.
Born in Butler, Nov. 3, 1940, he was the son of Barbara N. McGinley Angert and the late Harry P. Angert.
He had worked at Woolworth's in Butler, R. Schubert & Sons of Butler and Hindman's in Bon Aire for several years. He retired in 1990 as a coal miner at the Bethlehem Steel coal mines in Saxonburg after 18 years. He also was a Fairview Township supervisor for four years.
Mr. Angert was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of North Oakland. He was a life member of Chicora Loyal Order of Moose and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America District 2.
He also belonged to the Karns City Quarterback Club, the East Butler Baseball Association and was a charter member of the first baseball association of East Butler.
Surviving are his wife, Priscilla L. Miller Angert, whom he married April 28, 1962; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Darleen) Young and Marleen K. Bachman, both of Chicora; three sons, Daniel R. Angert of Petrolia, Stephen J. Angert of Karns City and Christopher M. Angert of East Brady; a stepdaughter, Tammy Carter of Georgia; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
He also is survived by his mother of Chicora; two sisters, Mrs. Ronald (Jane) DeBacco of Karns City and Mrs. Dennis (Susan) Double of Chicora; three brothers, Robert Angert of Karns City and Donald and Kenneth Angert, both of Chicora; and several nieces and nephews.
His first wife, Janet June Hansen Angert, whom he married in June 1960, died in February 1961. Two brothers also preceded him in death.
ANGERT - Friends of Raymond J. Angert, who died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora, with the Rev. David DeWitt officiating. Burial will be at Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.
The Chicora Moose Lodge will hold at memorial service at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
