Merlin Clarence Beck, 86, of Idaho Falls, died Feb. 26, 2000, at the Mallory House in Idaho Falls. He was born Feb. 27, 1913, at LaBelle, Idaho, to Clarence Lee Beck and Margaret Esther Briggs Beck.

He attended schools in LaBelle and worked with his father on the family farm. At age 15, he met his future wife and they were married five years later. On Dec. 31, 1932, he married Delsa Marion Hill at LaBelle. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on July 18, 1951.

They moved from Rexburg to Sugar City, and then to Idaho Falls, where he worked for the Old Faithful Beverage Co. During World War II, they moved to Utah, and he worked at the Geneva Steel Plant there. After the war, they returned to Archer to operate a farm next to his father' s farm. He had also farmed in Ammon and Terreton.

In 1950 he began employment as a carpenter for the Atomic Energy Commission (now the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory). While working there he also ran a small farm at Clark, Idaho. He had worked in Lake Tahoe, Nev., and California, finally moving back to Idaho Falls at his retirement. He and his wife then wintered in Yuma, Ariz. She died May 7, 1995.

In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he and his wife served as dance directors for their ward. They also loved to go dancing with their friends.

Merlin' s greatest joy was his family; he loved the time he spent with them.

Survivors include his two daughters, Joyce (Steve) Tibbitts of Moore, Idaho, and Diane (Marko) Blazich of Green River, Wyo.; a son, Verl Roy (Sam) Beck of Draper, Utah; a sister, Clea (Jack) Taylor of Palmdale, Calif.; three brothers, Wayne (Roxie) Beck of Shelley, Earl (Rhea) Beck of Archer, and Von (Kaylin) Beck of Idaho Falls; 18 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Renee Wilson; two sons, Blaine Beck and Blair Beck; two sisters; one brother; and infant twin siblings. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Idaho Falls Sunnyside Village LDS Ward with Bishop Jerry Gwynn officiating.

The family will meet with friends Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main in Rigby, and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church in Idaho Falls. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Idaho Falls.
