Pioneer in Local. Business Is Dead Services for John W. Thompson, 83. member of a prominent old Lafayette family, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Bradley mortuary, Chicago, following his death Monday in that city.
The body will be cremated, and the ashes brought here later for interment in Greenbush cemetery. News of the death was received here by a brother, George B. Thompson. John VV. Thompson, born in Lafayette, was a son of L R. Thompson, sr., who established the Home Journal, local newspaper. With two brothers, Robert J. and L. R. jr., he established and operated the When clothing store at Third and Main streets, leaving here about 1906 for Chicago. He was married to Anna Mitchell Henderson, now deceased.
Surviving are the brother, with two step-daughters.
