Marion Francis Turnage, 80 years of age, died yesterday in a local hospital after a prolonged illness. He was the husband of Mrs Essie Turnage of this city. He had engaged in selling real estate and in operating a motel for a number of years.
Mr. Turnage was born on Oct. 22, 1878 in North Carolina. He was a railroad telegraph operator for 33 years before coming to California to enter the real estate business.
Up to the time of recent retirement, Mr. Turnage had operated the Turnage Motel on South Broadway. He was a member of the Santa Maria Realty Board and of the Santa Maria Motel Assn.
Surviving beside his wife, is his son, C. L. Turnage, living in Ventura; daughters: Mrs. Gertrude Saling, and Mrs. Katharine Grottkau, both of Palos Verdes; Mrs. Frances Allison, Redondo Beach, and Mrs Marian Simko, Santa Maria. A step-daughter Mrs. Edith Gregory; one brother, Clarence Turnage, of Oklahoma, and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2. p.m. Saturday in Magner Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Claire Nesmith of the Methodist Church to officiate. Interment will follow in Santa Maria cemetery.
