DUMAS - Patsye Ruth Henley, 74, died Saturday, June 18, 2011.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church in Dumas with the Rev. Jerry Howe, pastor of the church, officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean with Z.A. Myers officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas.

Patsye was born April 3, 1937, in Mclean to Charles and Annie Herndon. She grew up in the McLean community and attended school there. On Aug. 9, 1957, she married Jerry Henley in Pampa. They shared their life together in Dumas. He preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 1989.

Patsye was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years, and was the first female mail carrier in Dumas.

Patsye was a member of First Baptist Church in Dumas. She was a woman of strong faith and was very active in the church.

Patsye had a great love for children and she taught Sunday school for many years. She loved flowers and enjoyed gardening, but most of all, she enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. She was very devoted to her family and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; her parents; two sisters, Ella Ann Hanes and Charlene Miller; and a granddaughter, Megan Mathews.

Patsye is survived by a daughter, Becky Mathews and husband Mike of Huttig, Ark.; a son, Michael Henley and wife Linda of Dumas; three sisters, Louise Avery of Amarillo, Natalie Meathenia of Bloomfield, N.M., and Kathy Reynolds of McLean; two brothers, Roy D. Herndon of Dumas and Darrell Herndon of McLean; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials be to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; Multiple Sclerosis Society, Panhandle Chapter, 6222 Canyon Drive, Amarillo, TX 79109; or First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 617, Dumas, TX 79029.
