Maurice Henry LUNDY of Bellevue, died Sunday, October 7, 2007 of complications due to Parkinson's disease. He was born in Boise, Idaho on December 21, 1923 to Thomas J. Lundy and Genevieve Cruzen. On October 28, 1944, Maurice married the love of his life, Lois Mae Waddell. After serving as a pilot in the Air Force, Maury attended USC on a tennis scholarship, and graduated from WSU with a degree in Game Management. He began his career as a biologist with the Idaho Fish and Game Department and later joined the US Department of the Interior Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, (BOR), as a game management agent eventually becoming the Regional Director of BOR. In 1980, Maury was the recipient of the Interior Department's highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award for his 30 years of service. Over the course of his career, Maury was instrumental in establishing the National and Scenic Rivers System, development of educational programs to protect wildlife and designating surplus federal land for development of public parks and recreation. He dedicated his career to preserving land and protecting recreational water and wildlife for current and future generations. Seattle area parks he was involved in include Saint Edward State Park, Mercer Slough, Kelsey Creek and the Burke Gilman Trail. Maury was always willing to help anyone in need and upon his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family, going for long walks, visiting the library, tinkering in his garage and rooting for the USC football team. A Memorial Service will be held, Friday, October 12, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Acacia Memorial Park Chapel 14951 Bothell Way NE Seattle, WA 98155 Maurice was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Lois, in 1999. He is survived by his brother, John Lundy of Boise, Idaho, his daughters, Laurie Lundy Ekman (Andy) of Portland, Jeri Starrett (Dave) of Sammamish, Genevieve Kelly (Steve) of Bellevue, three grandchildren, Lisa, Brandon and Jessica and numerous nieces and nephews.
