Julio farmed for 78 years, helping his father with farm chores at the age of 12 and finally retiring from farming at the age of 90. He established "Foster Hill Farm," a dairy farm, on Foster Hill, Milford Township, Penna., until moving it to Rtes. 6 and 209, also in Milford Township, in 1941.

He married pharmacist Marion Herbst, the first woman pharmacist in Pike County, in 1933 after a long courtship. In fact, the courtship lasted 10 years. The deal was not sealed until Julio built Marion's choice of a house for them on Chippy Cole Road, Foster Hill, Milford. As he put it, "To catch a bird you build a cage." Julio actually cut down the trees for the house and hauled them with two horses to the Wolfe Lumberyard, Milford, to be converted into boards. After finally marrying and settling in, the couple had three children.

In 1977 Julio was named to the Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame for having a perfect voting record for at least 50 consecutive years.

On July 6, 1996, the Milford Township Board of Supervisors declared "Julio A. Santos Day" to honor his accomplishments, including his long years of farming, in the township.
