Malissa Anderson was born in Mercer County, KY, July 29, 1805. She moved with her parents to Dubois County, IN in 1814; they being among the first settlers, as there were but 4 other families at that time. She was married to Archibald Edmonston March 2, 1826. They made Dubois County their home until 1831, when they came to Vermillion County, living for 2 years on what is known as Coleman's Prairie, then made their present vicinity their home. To them were born 8 children, 4 sons, and 4 daughters, of which 5 - Thomas A., Dorothy, William, Leroy, and Melissa J. - are left to mourn her loss. She was bereft of her companion December 15, 1865.

She has been most carefully cared for in her old age by her 2 youngest children, now living, Leroy and Malissa. She passed from this life February 8, 1895, after many months of suffering, which she bore with great patience and fortitude. She lived an exemplory life and was ready and waiting for that home prepared for her where there are no changes.

The funeral services were held at Lebanon Chapel, Sunday morning at half past 10 o'clock, being conducted by Rev. Meredith, of this place. The services were largely attended. Her remains were interred in the Manley Cemetery, beside her husband.
