Eliza Jane was the daughter of Benjamin Smith, Jr, and Abigail Blake, of Enosburgh, VT. She married 1863, at Lowell, VT, George Avery, Jr., who had homesteaded in Kansas, and had come back to marry her. They returned to Wakefield, KS., and had a family of nine children.
When Eliza married and went to KS, she decided to be known as "Jennie".
Her parents burial places haven't been found (2021).
