Salt Lake Tribune, The (UT) - November 12, 1992 Deceased Name: Melvin Felt Engstrom. On November 10, 1992, Melvin Felt Engstrom's pure heart was stilled, and his gentle, wise and noble spirit left mortality. Cancer was the dark force that robbed him of his health, and eventually took his life. Born May 5, 1911, to Malinda and Albert Engstrom in Huntsville. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1932, then bought a farm in Huntsville, and worked for the Utah State Legislature. When America entered World War II, he joined the Army and serving in the medical corps. On his return, he went to work for the State Tax Commission, becoming district manager for Southeastern Utah. He later was administrator of Price City Hospital, enjoying great successes and spearheading construction of a new hospital. Because of his accomplishments in Price, he was recruited by the LDS Church to manage two hospitals in Idaho. Encountering difficulties there, he left after a short tenure, and went to Selma, Calif, where he was administrator of Selma District Hospital until his retirement in 1978. He made his living as an administrator, but he was always, at heart, a farmer. He thought it the noblest of professions, and his dream was to be a ''happy and successful farmer''. He owned three farms in Utah, but loved most his grape farm in Selma. He knew no greater enjoyment than being out in the open air, working in the vineyards. He was active in the LDS Church, serving as Seventy's quorum president, Sunday School president, assistant stake auditor, high councilman, bishop's councilor, and bishop. A diligent student of the scriptures, having a particular love for the Testaments, and Mormon history. He had a remarkable memory, and used his gifts to become a popular preacher, giving talks still remembered for their insight and eloquence. His love for knowledge extended into many other areas. He read constantly, and was a deeply learned man.

Survived by his sister, Henrietta; brother, Lamar; his wife, Elda Myrteen Holladay Engstrom, whom he married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1953. Children are, Bert Felt (Eileen), David Melvin (Carol), Ray Holladay (Christine), and Fae Louise; and his grandchildren are, Leslie, Melanie, David, Amelia, Katherine, Ryan, Melissa, and Camille. There have never been stronger bonds of love than those that exist between Melvin and his family. We mourn his loss and will live with sadness until this separation from our sweet father has ended. We find solace in memory of his profound goodness, and in the assurance he has found rest in the loving arms of our Savior. Services will be Friday, November 13, 11 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Chapel, 2350 East 1300 South, where friends may call the hour prior. Interment, Huntsville, Cemetery.
