Neal was a quiet, shy, tender, but funny guy. I will never forget expressing to Aunt Carol that I wondered what happened to a picture that hung at my grandmother's house that I wish I had. It was of a collie baying into the night over a lost lamb in the snow. Months later, when Neal was sick and I'd stopped to visit, he brought that picture out of his bedroom and gave it to me. I was moved to tears. I was so proud to have that picture, I brought it home and hung it next to my bed, as it had hung next to my grandmother's bed for so many years. I used to lie awake when I spent the night with her and stare at that picture and thought what a nice picture it was.
Now, many nights I lie awake and look at the picture...and, it no longer reminds me so much of Ma...but, of Neal and his kindness. ..and, when I wake up...I find myself thinking of Neal, too.
I think Neal was misunderstood, a lot...but, he was a very kind and loving soul.
I miss you, Neal....peace to you, Man....
