Born Jan. 17, 1916, in Bloomington, he was the son of Charles W. and Gayle (Brown) East. He was a member of a pioneer family in Monroe County and was a factory representative of the Lincoln Manufacturing Company in Fort Wayne. He was a charter member of the Bloomington Optimist Club, the American Legion, Monroe County Historical Society, Bloomington Elks Lodge and the First Christian Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Martha (Sailors) East; a son, Garry East of Bloomington; a daughter, Carol Jones of Kent, Wash.; his mother of Bloomington and a sister, Mardelle Johnson of Bloomington.
