In Memory of Mrs. Lou Burns
This community is over-shadowed in deep sorrow over the death of Grandma Burns. She has been sick for two weeks of heart trouble and pneumonia. She passed away Saturday morning, May 6th, at 10:30.
She was such a patient sufferer. So kind and sweet. All was well with her. She was one of the sweetest women, possessed with one of the most beautiful characters, a consecrated Christian and such a dear loving mother. She loved her children and grandchildren so very dearly. But you have such a sweet consolation of seeing Mother again some sweet day, after awhile in a beautiful home not made with hands. Then there will be no more sad heartaches. It was so hard for the dear ones to give up their dear sainted mother. There is another link in Heaven. It is so sad you can not come to see mother any more, and get no more sweet letters from her own dear hands.
To know Grandma was to love her. She was so kind and friendly. She had that sweet, humble Christian spirit. The home-tie is broken and that vacancy will always be in your heart. Without a mother to stand behind you, and to see mother go, is something terrible. But God never puts more on us than we can stand. Comfort comes from God. He is ever ready to share our sorrows.
Grandma Burns was about 69 years of age and a member of the Methodist Church. She was buried at the Hood Cemetery. The funeral was conducted at the Methodist Church by her former pastor, Rev. W.L. Hendrix, of Cleveland, with prayer by Dr. T.B. Nation, of Oneonta. The grandsons were pallbearers. Granddaughters and nieces were the flower girls.
She leaves to mourn her passing four sons, Columbus Hood, of Hendrix, Andrew Hood of Birmingham, Joe Hood, of Jay, Fla., and Jan Hood, of New York; one daughter Mrs. Etta Bellenger; one brother, Matt Brown, of Miss.; three half-brothers, George, Walter and Charley Brown; one half-sister, Mrs. Eliza Hughes and other relatives and friends.
This community deeply sympathizes with them in their loss of this, our dear friend.
