Lynn Spencer Madsen passed away on October 28, 2001 from complications following a heart attack.

He was born in Manti, Utah on July 18, 1914 to Spencer William and Matilda Beuhler Madsen, the seventh of eight children and the only son. He grew up in Salt Lake City and attended the University of Utah.

His first professional engineering job was with Standard Oil of California, and within a short time, he was assigned to their exploratory operation in Saudi Arabia.

In World War II, as a reserve Army officer, he was called to active duty in the Persian Gulf Command, and, among other commendations, was awarded the Bronze Star for "exceptionally meritorious achievement". He held the rank of Major at the time of his retirement from the Army Reserves.

Lynn married Solveig Dorothy Lunde on December 26, 1950; later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Arabian American Oil Co. assignments took them to Rome, Italy for two years, then to Washington, DC, where their sons Eric Lunde Madsen and Carl Buehler Madsen, were born. After a brief assignment in New York City, the family moved to Saudi Arabia, where they remained until Lynn's retirement in 1970. Returning to the United States, Lynn joined the engineering firm of Caldwell, Richards and Sorensen in Salt Lake City, retiring in 1984 as Vice President of CRS International.

Lynn was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, residing in the Monument Park Fifteenth Ward. He was a faithful Temple worker for over twenty years, and loved and cherished his fellow workers.

Survived by his wife and sons Eric L. (Janice) and Carl B. (Marie), and grandchildren Spencer R., Luisa M., Paul N., Eric R., and Scott G. Pre-deceased by sisters Lucille Krantz, Rosalia Hovey, Lorna Johnson, Pearl Gray Casper, Geneva Madsen, Beulah Gillespie, and Donna Smith.
