EAST PRAIRIE - Vernon Gregory Baker, 47 years old of East Prairie, died Tuesday in a Cape Girardeau hospital.
Mr. Baker was born near East Prairie on May 14, 1920, son of Mr. and Mrs. Silas Baker, who survive. He married Ruth LaPlant on Jan. 31, 1940 and she also survives.
Mr. Baker served on the East Prairie School Board for nine years and was a charter member of the Rotary Club. He was owner of Johnnies Restaurant in Charleston. He was a member of the First Church of God in East Prairie.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Brenda Drant and Miss Hanice Baker; three brothers, Dr. Bernard Baker, Lloyd Baker and Leon Baker and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at the Shelby Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Charleston.
