Mendocino Dispatch Democrat - 3/3/1899:
Death of L.J. Feliz
Hopland, February 28th
Our citizens were surprised when the news was flashed from Nevada that Billy Feliz, a native of this town, was accidently killed while driving cattle into Lovelock. The following extract from an editorial in the Lovelock Tribune of Humboldt Co, Nev, will show the respect and esteem in which he was held in his adopted state.
Lazarus Jesus Feliz, "Billy" Feliz as he was always called, was born in Mendocino county, Cal., Jan. 16th, 1868 and had just passed his 31st year. He moved to Nevada with his parents in 1884, and has resided most of the time in Lovelock. He and Louise were the children of Antone Feliz by his first wife. About 3 years ago Billy was married to Miss Minnie O'Connor of Golden Gate, Cal. They have one child, a baby of about 18 months. Two years ago Billy was elected constable, and re-elected last fall. The body will be taken to Hopland, Cal. where is the family burying ground....
Billy was born in Hopland, the son of Antonio and Louisa Feliz and grandson of Don F. Feliz, the first white settler and original grantee of the old Spanish grant, "Rancho de Sanel"...

Point Arena Record - 3/3/1899:
William, better known as Billy, Feliz was brought home and buried at Hopland last Monday. He died in Nevada from the effects of an injury received by a horse falling on him several days previous to his demise. He was a grandson of old Fernando Feliz, who was the original Feliz grant extending from a few miles below this city to several miles below Hopland.
