He was the son of Andrew Jackson Allen and Frances Buzan. He was a twin and his twin brother, Ulysses Grant Allen died in 1909. He was a dentist in Jewell, Iowa for nearly 30 years. He moved to Jewell, Iowa in 1902. He served as mayor of Jewell, Iowa. He became an expert checkers player and participated in state tournments and won several. He married Bertha May Snyder and they had one child who died in infancy. They adopted a daughter, Avonelle, who lived in Chicago at the time of her father's death. William's grave is not marked. I believe he is buried next to his brother, Charles.
