Clark Buck Drowned.

Monday, while in bathing in a water-hole near his home in the Dale country, Clark Buck, about thirty years of age, lost his bearing in about twelve feet of water and was drowned. Tuesday, the authorities were called from Linton by neighbors who were not certain as to how the tragedy occurred. The victim never came to the top after first sinking, according to Ed. Logue, who witnessed the drowning. Mr. L. attempted to rescue the drowning man, but could not locate his body until too late. When found the dead man was firmly grasping a stone projection on the bottom of the pond. The funeral was held in Linton yesterday. Deceased leaves a wife and three children to mourn his loss.

Death of Clark Buck.

Last Sunday afternoon, R. C. Buck, who lives on the Pete Knudtson farm near Dale, and his father-in-law, E. E. Logue, who lives on the Jos. Clark place, went out in the pasture where there was a small water hole to go in bathing. Mr. Buck undressed and jumped into the water; not coming up to the surface immediately, Mr. Logue, who was partly undressed, became alarmed that something was wrong and dove in after him. The drowning man caught him by the foot and he started to swim out, but just as he reached the bank Buck released his hold and went down again. Mr. Logue, being an old man and not very strong, was afraid to make any further attempts to save him and started for Hal Tracy's place for help. Upon their return, Hubert Coffield, who is a good swimmer, dove and found the man at the bottom with his hands tightly grasping a stone. He made three attempts before he was able to bring the body to the surface, and then it being in the water for more than an hour all hopes to resuscitate life were given up.

It is said Mr. Buck was unable to swim but had gone into this pond several times before this summer when the water was not over his head, but since the recent rains the water had raised to a depth of about 8 feet. The deceased is a man of about thirty-five years old, and leaves a family of a wife and two children, who have the sympathy of all who know them. Interment was made in the Linton cemetery, Tuesday afternoon. -- Pollock Progress.
