BYRON - The funeral for Clair N. Lund of Byron will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Christ Lutheran Church in Byron, with the Rev. Mark Helgeland officiating. Spring burial will be in Byron Cemetery

Mr. Lund, 74, died Friday morning, February 26, 1993, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Lund was born September 9, 1918, in Bemidji, MN, son of Andrew and Belle May (Irish) Lund. He grew up in Effie, MN and moved with his family to Rochester, where he attended Rochester High School. After graduation, he moved back to northern MN and was employed at a logging camp.

He married Virginia Loken on May 9, 1942 in Oklahoma City, and joined the Army that same year. He was stationed in Guam. After the war, the couple lived in Rochester until 1950, when they moved to Bigfork, MN. In 1951 they moved to Byron, where he worked as a rural mail carrier until retirement in 1976. He was a former postmaster at the Byron post office, a member of American Legion Post 119 and an avid sportsman.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra (Mrs. Michael) O'Brien of Libertyville, IL; a son, William of Rochester; four grandchildren; and two brothers, George of McGregor, MN and Andrew of Rochester.

He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers and a sister. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church and 10 a.m. until the service at the church on Monday. A military honors service will be conducted after the service at the church.
