Clifford Branaman, 94 of Pierre Died on Monday, May 19, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital after a short illness Services will be at 10:30am Friday, May 23 at Maryhouse Chapel with Visitation starting at 9:30 Burial will be at 2:00pm Tuesday, May 27 at West View Cemetery in La Porte City, IA. There will be a time of fellowship following the burial at the Rusty Pig.

Clifford Clinton Branaman was born January 29, 1914 in Murray, Iowa to Clinton and Josephine (Smith) Branaman. At the age of 7, he went to live at Soldier's Orphanage in Davenport, Iowa. He was taken there with his two brothers; his father continued to visit them over the next few years. At the age of 15, he went to live with his foster parents, Walter and Florence Lockhart on a farm near Independence, Iowa where he attended high school. He graduated from Independence High School in 1934.

Cliff married Opal Harton on April 9, 1936 in Waterloo, Iowa. During his lifetime, Cliff worked for Gambles in Storm Lake, IA, the La Porte City Dairy, the La Porte City Elevator, he sold insurance for Northwest Mutual of Waterloo, IA and he worked for and retired from John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo, IA.

Cliff enjoyed bowling, woodworking, music, golf, reading, and playing cards with friends. He was a member of the Masons and was also a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in La Porte City, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal, his parents, his brothers: Clark and Clinton Branaman; his sister, Bernice Branaman Parker; his half brothers: True, Eugene and Ernest Sheldon; his half sister, Irene Sheldon; his foster brothers: Veryl; and Marion Lockhart and his foster sister, Margaret Lockhart Allen.
