United States Senator. Elected to represent New Mexico in the United States House of Representatives as an At-Large Delegate, serving from 1957 to 1964. Also served as a Member of the New Mexico State House of Representatives in 1936, Member of the New Mexico State Senate from 1940 to 1946, and 1953 to 1954, Delegate to Democratic National Convention from New Mexico in 1944, and 1948, Lieutenant Governor of New Mexico from 1947 to 1951, and 1955 to 1957, and United States Senator from New Mexico from 1964 to 1977. He was defeated in 1976.
