Ottie Edward Schimpf, 87, of Murphysboro, died Sunday in Jackson County Nursing Home, Murphysboro after a long illness.
He was born Jan. 25, 1886, in Ora Township in Jackson County, to Sebastian and Mary Sherman Schimpf.
On Oct. 26, 1926, in Edwardsville, he married Bluebell Creason.
He was a member of the Gorham Methodist Church. Mr. Schimpf was a retired merchant and was a director of Gorham Bank for 49 years.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Bob of Washington, Ill. and Bill of Carrollton; a brother, Emil of Gorham; sisters, Katherine Jennings and Emma Love, both of Murphysboro; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be in Crawshaw Mortuary Chapel, Murphysboro with the Rev. Donald DeJarnett officiating. Burial will be in Glenhaven* Memorial Park Cemetery, Murphysboro.
(*Should be Pleasant Grove Cemetery. I don't believe a Glenhaven Cemetery exists near Murphysboro.)
