Mrs. O'Neal was born August 29, 1917, in Lake Como, Miss., the daughter of Walter Winston and Mary Annie Waldrup Cook, and she married Edward Eli O'Neal November 13, 1936. She was employed for many years with Ferson Optics in Ocean Springs and prior to retirement with Eckerd Drugs. Mrs. O'Neal was a member of the Adah Chapter No. 49 Order of Eastern Star in Ocean Springs and received her 50 year pin and plaque in1997. She and her husband also received recognition for their 50+ years of residency in Ocean Springs. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Ocean Springs, where she was active in the church choir, a member of the church "Go Getters," and was a Sunday School teacher for the primary department for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1993; two brothers; two sisters; and one nephew.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Sandra and Steve Schlote of Solon, IA; a son, Bobby O'Neal of Meraux, LA; five grandchildren, Sonja Schlote Watters of Marion, IA, Ann Schlote Romo of Coralville, IA, Eric Schlote of Iowa City, IA, Donna O'Neal McClain of Picayune, MS, and Michael O'Neal of Gulfport, MS; and five great-grandchildren, Ryan Watters, Aleann Romo, and David, Amanda and Amy McClain.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 17, at the funeral home chapel with burial in Crestlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Ocean Springs.
